McLaren F1 是一款跑车,是英国一级方程式车队 McLaren 制造的首款获得类型批准的公路用车。它是最后一款在勒芒24小时耐力赛中获得总冠军的合法上路量产跑车,同时也被公认为发布时世界上最快的“量产车”。首席技术设计师 Gordon Murray 的最初构想说服了时任 McLaren 负责人 Ron Dennis,支持 McLaren 跃入公路跑车制造领域。汽车设计师 Peter Stevens 受聘负责该车的外观和内饰设计。

为制造 F1,McLaren Cars(现 McLaren Automotive)成立;并与 BMW 签约,由其开发并制造 BMW S70/2 V12 发动机,该发动机专为 F1 独家限量使用。该车拥有众多专有设计和技术。作为首批采用全碳纤维单体壳车身和底盘结构的跑车之一,尽管 F1 设有三个成人座位,它仍比许多后来的竞争对手更轻、更符合空气动力学。其非常规的座椅布局——驾驶员座椅位于前部中央,两名乘客座椅(位于驾驶员左右两侧)——为驾驶员提供了更好的视野。Murray 构思 F1 是为了打造“终极公路跑车”,秉承了 Bruce McLaren 对 M6 GT 的原始计划精神。

生产始于 1992 年,于 1998 年结束;总共制造了 106 辆汽车,设计上有一些变化。尽管最初并非设计为赛车,但经过改装的赛车版本赢得了多场比赛,包括 1995 年勒芒24小时耐力赛。

1998 年 3 月 31 日,配备改装转速限制器的 XP5 原型车以 240.1 英里/小时(386.4 公里/小时)的速度创下了吉尼斯世界纪录,成为世界上最快的量产车,超越了 Jaguar XJ220 在 1992 年通过提高转速限制并移除催化转化器所创造的 217.1 英里/小时(349.4 公里/小时)的纪录。
