Rapid Transit Series (RTS) 城市公交车是一款历史悠久的公交车型,最初由 GMC Truck and Coach Division 于1977年在密歇根州庞蒂亚克制造。RTS 于1977年首次投产,是 GMC 推出的 Advanced Design Bus 设计方案(竞争对手 Flxible 的另一参赛作品为 Grumman 870),也是 GMC 为美国交通部 Transbus 项目所研发原型车的衍生车型。RTS 以其当时颇具未来感的造型而闻名,其特点是拥有类似汽车的弧形车身和车窗面板;Advanced Design Buses 被设计为[由谁?]在前代高地板公交车(如 GMC New Look,其拥有弧形挡风玻璃但侧面玻璃和车身面板为平面)与现代低地板公交车(旨在方便乘客登车和提升无障碍性)之间的过渡方案。目前大多数公交车均由专业客车制造商生产,采用平直的车身侧面和车窗设计。

RTS 的生产于1987年从 GM 转移至 Motor Coach Industries(通过其位于新墨西哥州罗斯威尔的 Transportation Manufacturing Corporation 子公司),1994年转移至 NovaBus,最终于2003年转移至 Millennium Transit Services (MTS)。随着 MTS 于2009年关闭,RTS 的生产也随之停止。

RTS 提供30英尺(9.14米)、35英尺(10.67米)和40英尺(12.19米)三种长度型号,采用模块化设计,使得相同部件可用于所有三种长度,其中最长型号最多可容纳47名乘客。其最初搭载 Detroit Diesel Series 71 二冲程柴油发动机的6缸或8缸版本,通过 Allison V730 或 ZF 5HP-500 变速箱传递动力。后期型号可搭载6缸 Series 92 或4缸 Series 50 发动机。
